This video was a special project I completed for Meridian Senior Living to showcase some of their residents.
It was nothing flashy, just a static camera position and a few dozen interviewees sharing their perspective on life and what it means to live a great life. No flasy effects, no crazy camera movement, just a camera on a tripod and some questions.
We don’t give the older generations enough value in this day and age. The wisdom learned from experience shapes our identity, and ultimately, is what makes each of us unique.
Meridian wanted to capture the stories of some of their residents to showcase that their communities are still full of life, despite what the stereotypes may allude to. It’s hard to chop down long interviews with multiple people into a short clip of soundbytes, but here is what we came up with.
Shooting
We spent five days in seven communities around Southern California to shoot this piece. Meridian has communities across the USA but it would be cost prohibitive to travel around, so we focused on an area with a high concentration of communities where residents would have diverse backgrounds.
The questions were fairly open ended, but I always weaved in the main prompt, “What advice would you give to young people today?” Most of what you see here came from that question.
There was a lot more that I shot, which is always the hardest part of taking so much footage and whittling it down to a small piece that is suitable for social media. But in the end, I think it turned out pretty well.
I hope that it gives you a smile.
