Outside Magazine Contributers Stage a Mutiny On The Publisher

We need more integrity in publishing. Recently, 34 regular contributors to Outside Magazine did their part to show that it’s out there.

In a rare move, a group of people collectively signed a letter to Robin Thurston, the head of Outside Interactive, to express their dissatisfaction at the direction the company is heading on.

Instead of repeating the news secondhand, I’ll just share what one of the signatories shared on LinkedIn:

It’s no secret that the publishing world has drastically changed this century over last. The internet has upended most of our culture, with publishing being one of the most dramatic. Some of it is good, such as the smaller, independent voices like myself gaining a platform. But Goliath is ever present, and in our society, that means significant amounts of capital.

So good on the fine folks who signed their name to have their names removed. It does not go unnoticed, and those of us in independent publishing salute you.
