Your Backcountry-Ready Sound Mixer/Recordist

a portrait of steve andrews working as a location sound recordist in squamish, british columbia

I am a sound mixer with over 10 years experience in the craft, and over 20 years of experience working on productions of all sizes.

Beyond that, I’m a certified ski guide through the CSGA and an avalanche educator through the CAA. I also hold my advanced first aid ticket, meaning I have documented proficiency exploring the mountains safely.

Hiring me on your crew offers peace of mind that I can handle extreme weather and questionable traverses, all while recording sound for commercials, feature films, television, and more. I have a long list of clients, from Netflix, Disney, NatGeo, Rolex, Subaru, IMAX, and more.

Although sound mixing is a technical trade, I am also a writer, so I understand the power of a good narrative. As such, I can anticipate where the good dialogue will be coming in from and can stay one step ahead of what’s being recorded on camera.

Why Good Sound Matters

It’s no secret that bad sound can be a costly mistake. You need to get it right the first time, otherwise you will have to do some costly touch ups that may be impossible to replicate the action from the field.

So while a good sound mixer might be more of an investment up front; in the long run, it will save you time and money to hire a professional who knows what they are doing. This is especially true when you are out in remote locations. So make the right call, and hire someone who cares about capturing good sound in the backcountry.
